My Participation in Day Without Immigrants

Posted Date: 2/03/25 (7:44 AM)

Dear Superintendent Mr. Randy Bangs and Frank Ledesma Elementary School Community,

After much thoughtful reflection, I have decided to participate in tomorrow's Day Without Immigrants. Rest assured that FLES will be open and staffed to ensure continuity of learning for our students in attendance.

As both an educational leader and an immigrant myself, this decision carries deep personal significance, rooted in my own lived experience, the values I've tried to instill in my own children, and my unwavering commitment to the well-being and dignity of our immigrant students, families, and staff.

I understand the important contributions that immigrants make—not just to our schools but to our communities and our nation as a whole. Many of our students and their families live with the daily challenges that come with immigration status, economic insecurity, and systemic inequities. As educators, we witness their resilience, their dreams, and the sacrifices they make in pursuit of a better future.

My choice to stand in solidarity on this day is a recognition of their struggles and an affirmation of our shared humanity. It is also a moment for us to reflect on how we, as a school community, can continue to support and uplift all families, ensuring that every child feels safe, seen, valued, and empowered.

I recognize that each of us must make personal decisions about how to engage with this day. Regardless of individual choices, I encourage us to take this occasion as an opportunity to foster meaningful conversations about inclusion, justice, and the role we play in advocating for all of our students.

Thank you for your dedication to our school and our mission. I am grateful to be part of a team that believes in equity and the power of education to transform lives.

In solidarity,
Dr. Jonathan Sison, Principal
